Uberlandia, Brazil, Augus 1, 2019 – Bethania De La Cruz top scored with 13 points to help the Dominican Republic start their Olympic qualification campaign with a win against Azerbaijan in straight sets in Pool D of the Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: "It was as a good start against a strong team. Our service and defence system worked well. We'll need this for the rest of the tournament. To be tested at this level and on the first match was good because it showed us that we need to be alert all the time"
Azerbaijan coach Giovanni Caprara: "I’m satisfied about the first match because in the beginning it was difficult. It’s our first game together. In the second set we improved our game. In general we made a lot of mistakes and we need to improve points like the service. Apart from this, Brazil and Dominican Republic are great teams but our target is to improve our game.”
