Bulgaria coach Petkov: "It was important to start strong”

Shreveport-Bossier City, USA, August 2, 2019 – Bulgaria started the Tokyo Volleyball Qualification Tournament on the right foot by defeating Argentina 3-1 (24-26, 25-9, 25-18, 25-20) on Friday.

Bulgaria coach Ivan Petkov: “We felt good after the match because it was important for us to start strong in the tournament. In the first set we did not play well without concentration, without emotion, but after that we started to play good volleyball and step by step played well in all skills.”

Bulgaria captain Elitsa Vasileva: “I think the only thing we did was stop making too many mistakes (in the first set). We needed to find our rhythm and started to make fewer mistakes. We needed to concentrate on our block as our reception was not as good. We had better block and defence to get into transition.”

Argentina captain Julieta Constanza Lazcano: “ We have a young team. We had a hard time to maintain the level in the first set. I think we put in a lot for the first set then relaxed a little. I also need to say that Bulgaria are a very good team. They knew how to react to us. We will use this for experience. We will try to maintain our level but it is complicated since we have a young team.”
