Ningbo, China, August 2, 2019 - Turkey overcame an aggressive German side to record a 3-1 (27-25, 25-20, 17-15, 25-20) win in Pool B of the Tokyo Volleyball Qualification at Beilun Sports and Arts Centre in Ningbo on Friday.
Turkey coach Giovanni Guidetti: “It was a very hard game as we expected. Team Germany is really well organised. So it was very difficult for us to put the ball to their floor. We tried to find many solutions to deal with good blocking of Germany. We have to score difficult points through a couple of high balls. But I have to say, every player on the court did a very good job. They trusted each other and they are ready for any tough game. We are looking forward to tomorrow’s match.”
Turkey captain Eda Erdem Dundar: “I would like to congratulate Germany as they played very well today. It was our first game in this pool and it was a key match for this round. So we have to win this. Also we have to improve ourselves day by day and we have to focus on the match tomorrow.”
Germany coach Felix Koslowski: “Congratulations to team Turkey. They managed to control the tempo well and produced many troubles to us. We tried to come back to get close to them but could not find the solution to come off the situation. I would like to congratulate my players. They showed good mentality during the game. Being down against team Turkey, they played very good volleyball, coming back three to four points in every set to gain some opportunities.”
Germany captain Denise Hanke: “I think it is a hard game as we expected. We wanted to fight for every point, but most of the time we were a little bit behind Turkey especially at the end of the sets. We tried to fix it but unfortunately we were not able to do it. Anyway, tomorrow we will come back with our best attitude and play our best.”
